The SAI has become the SASIE

Since October 25, 2022, the Secrétariat à l’adoption internationale (SAI) has changed its name for the Secrétariat aux services internationaux à l’enfant (SASIE). For more information, see the News section of our website.

Training prior to adopting a child domiciled outside Québec will become mandatory

As of August 10, 2023, the International Adoption: First Steps and Thoughts training program will be mandatory for all persons domiciled in Québec considering international adoption. For more information, see the News section of our website.

Adoption Process

Adoption involves a set of procedures that it is important to follow. The procedures were put in place to protect the child, in accordance with public interest and international agreements. Therefore, it is essential to follow each of the steps so that the adoption plan is not jeopardized.

The information that follows will enable prospective adopters to evaluate the feasibility of their adoption plan and learn how to obtain authorization for the plan, whether they hope to adopt a child living in a foreign country or in Canada:
